I know it is best to sink many different types of cover but, if you had to choose to build one type of cover, which cover would you build when the only cost was the Blocks to sink them?

- Pallet Pyramids- Takes 3-4 Cement Blocks to Sink
- Bamboo Condos (cement block stuffed with bamboo up to 10Ft High) Takes 1 Block to Sink
-Christmas Trees Takes 1 Block to Sink

I was thinking the Bamboo Condos because:

- It only takes 1 block to sink them- Pallet Pyramids take 3-4
- They have a much bigger spread than pallets
- They last much longer than Christmas Trees
- Hooks will pull through easier
- They are much easier to sink

What does everyone else think?

Thnx

Foodie fish, explain about the bamboo and the cinder blocks. How to put together and make secure? Does the bamboo stand up and splay out? How long can you expect it to last?

Bamboo is best secured by sticking them down in a bucket of wet concrete and letting it dry. But first, run some rebar through the bottom of the bucket to keep it from tipping over.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

What I do is take a cement Cinder Block, put six pieces of fresh bamboo (leaves and all) on each side of the Cinder block sticking out at an angle, and then add cement to fill in the hole and hold the bamboo in.

What I end up with is a canopy of bamboo ten feet high and twenty feet long. When you throw it in the water it floats down to the bottom like a parachute and stands up perfectly. Bamboo will last much longer than Christmas Trees.

Good idea ! Can you post a pic so I can add it to the structure archive ? You can do the same thing with a bucket and long oak limbs (1-2 inches in dia.).

I posted two pictures in the Photo Gallery of the Bamboo Condos I have started sinking as requested by ewest. I am not sure how to attach them this post

Thnx

They have to be stored on-line somewhere like photobucket first. There is a tutorial in the archives.

Foodeefish, I like those a lot. I guess I'm on the hunt for fresh bamboo.
