Looking for a pond builder in central IL to see about putting in another small pond. Probably around a 1/10 of an acre. Would use a liner to seal the pond. Deepest would be between 6/8 feet with riprap all around.

For that, all you need is a dirt guy. Since you're going to be using a liner, they don't have to know about compacting soils to hold water. Visit your counties NRCS office if you don't get any replies here. They should have a list of "pond builders" on file. Ask them if they were to have a pond dug, who would be the 3-5 guys that they would call for estimates. http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/site/national/home/ Upper right corner is where you look for state offices.

You DO however have to know how to install a liner properly, which is just a bunch of research on proper planning, execution, and do's and dont's.
I've gotten a few tips on liners here, which added to the mix of info. Most is from people that actually install them tho.
Maybe talk to a liner guy and bleed some info.

JKB - You must have been reading my thoughts about a liner. I have looked at some web sites that sell them and have a little info on installation. Will search out someone who has installed or knows someone in my area that has had experience installing them. Would want to do it right to prevent problems.

FishingPal,
Are you sure you need a liner? It's an added unneeded expense of a few grand if you don't.
Just asking and could be way off on this, but I've run into people in may area that assume you have to have a liner to have a pond which is not the usually the case in my area.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Not absolutely sure I will need a liner but just planning in case I do. I have another pond and it is a leaker. Damn is not the problem but water table. This new pond would be very close to the home and don't want a mud pit that close with dying fish.

Where are you in Central IL? I've had 2 built and would recommend my guy again. PM me if you want and I'll shoot you his info if you're close.
