I have a honeysuckle vine, not bush type, that is growing right below the deck that is at the renovated ponds edge. The heavy equipment could not take it out in fear of damaging the deck. It is very invasive. I figur if it needs to be killed now is the time because I have not stocked the pond. It does provided good erosion control. Should it stay or should it go? If it needs to go I thought I would hang down over the deck, cut it and immediately treat the cuts with stump and vine killer. What to do?

miss nancy, Remedy herbicide works great on any brushy weeds.

The other option, which is more work, is to trim the honeysuckle at ground level. If the deck blocks the sunlight to the cut stumps, that should greatly slow the plant growth. IIRC, honeysuckle is a full sunlight vine. But crawling under the deck to do this may not be fun.

The smell of honeysuckle on a summer evening is a childhood memory that is woven with watermelon, mosquitos, grass stains and fishing with pink worms and crickets.

Do you know how to pinch off the bottom, pull out the streams and get the honey?

Fun thing to teach and enjoy with your grand kids....

It makes a pretty good wine too! It just takes quite a bit to make even a gallon.
