I spent a good part of the day fishing with minnows shiners under a bobber. I was actually hoping to catch a walleye, and monitor their status. I had a couple of nice hits, and my line was cut. I will have to start fishing with leaders I guess.
Anyway, I caught several nice Perch(by my pond standards anyway) Here's a couple of examples from today's angling.
Give a man a fish, and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer.
Fish in the first photo above was deep hooked, it's soaking now! This photo is just another. The file manager would only let me upload 2 pics on the last post. It is such a blast watching my minnow in the water and seeing the colors of a perch twisting through the water on the retrieve!

I can't wait to add them to my pond. I was going to wait 2 years for the FHMs and GSHs to build up, but now I think that I will add 20 each of YP, RES, and SMB this fall. The lower numbers will save me some money.
Bill so far everything looks promising. I had pretty much non stop action all day. Went through at least 10 dozen shiners, and the majority of catches were 6-8" perch with pudgy bellies. Even caught some with pellets in their bellies where I feed. I wanted to see what was actually eating pellets.

Rah, Kind of a long story, so I'll try to condense the scenario.
I have a 3 1/2 acre spring fed pond, that was built in 1976. This pond contained CC, various sunfishes Northern BG,GSF,orange spotted sunfish, and a very healthy population of golden shiners. I believe the majority of the GSF are actually the offspring of HBG.Very heavy population of GSF, and mongrel hybrid sunfishes. I began removing the CC, There were a lot of large ones, and was intent on removing them as I had no interest in CC, wanted to reduce their biomass affects, and reduce predation on my future stocking.
In October of 2011, I added 600 4-6" YP, with 350 WE @6-8".
I anticipated a large number being eaten by the resident CC.I had removed a lot of CC by this time, and still have many left.
Things were going great until the spring of 2012. Yellow perch were being caught, and an occasional WE. Then I had a fish kill. I believe it was due to Lorsban being sprayed on the surrounding wheat field. I had a lot of dead sunfishes, several YP and a few WE.
I had no idea how many I had left from the original stocking.I never caught another YP or WE that summer. (I also cut the crap out of some tendons on my hand and wasn't able to fish til into August. And didn't really do a lot of minnow fishing til my new stockers were added.) Though many sunfishes, GSH, CC remained alive. I actually could not tell I had lost any of them, except the fact that I started seing more "minnow"s in the shallows.
Last September I added 600 more YP. These were some ideal fish. I ordered 4-6" YP. They arrived with many large YP. Many were in the 4-6" range, and a few were 8-9"
I also added another 300 WE 6-8" at the same time.
So to sum it up, I've thrown a buttload of them in, and after yesterday's specific targeting of YP, I am led to believe a large number of my original stockers survived.
I purchased them from a supplier in Hurdland Mo. They are not an advertiser here, so I'm leary about blurting their name out. I will send a PM on that.
Both times prices paid for the fish were
YP= $1.25 each
WE=$2.25 each
Sorry...I see Cecil asked about where I got the Perch.... lol I still had sleep in my eyes!

I got them from Harrison Fisheries. They're in the Northeast corner of Missouri.

I'm not a moderator but from my understanding you can create a link or talk about any company/business on here even if they are not an advertiser so long as YOU DON"T OWN THE COMPANY.

Thanks James. I don't think that's a problem.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
I got my fish last year from the Hurdland hatchery, including YP. I rescued one this spring after a heavy rain from the shallow pool below the overflow tube. Since last fall, the YP had grown maybe two inches and had developed a pot gut. It was a pretty fish.
