Welcome to the group, I started feeding mine from the start but started out with koi food as it is smaller than my local fish food supply. It took them awile to figure out where I was feeding them from so I didn't use much at first. But once they got the message they were off to the races.

I'd start feeding immediately. Feed all they will eat in about a 15 minute period. 1000 fish in a 1.5 acre pond is doable but only with a feeding program and fairly heavy management. You will probably need an aeration program. They will create a lot of waste.

remember we are getting near the end of the growing season, the water has already started to cool. To get the cats used to feed at their new home start off feeding at the same place and same time each day. It might be next spring till you see feeding activity That is a bunch of cats for a 1 1/2 acre pond since some are blues. When they get 12 inches You need to start haveing alot of fish frys. What other fish are already in the pond?
