My 1/4 acre lined pond in west texas turned over AGAIN. I have had it for 25 plus years and have an airolator, but it was 100 plus for several days and we were running the airolator about 16 hrs. a day. I've only lost the over abundane of perch and bluegill so far and that was a blessing. It's been 4 days now and found 4 dead catfish this morning, all different sizes. We are running airolator 24/7 now as 100 degree days all week expected. Anything else we can do? How long before I can assume my cats made it thru the fish kill? We're pretty sure it was the algae dying that caused it. Any help would be MOST appreciated.
Thanks, Sindy

I assume the heat and the airolator running, we haven't put anything in to help kill it.It's angel hair and now it's black and sinking. The dead and dying fish were right under the layers of it at first, as if to be trying to find shade.

Ok that eliminates a possible cause.

Can you tell us more about the "airolator"? Aeration generally helps stratify the pond.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
