Newbie to the forum so if this is in the wrong section please feel free to move. I've ventured on here from time to time, but now that I have obtained a pond with a recent property purchase and I need some information. The pond had no bass in it at all, and was used as a water hole for cattle. There seem to be a few large flathead in there that we have caught, and a few stunted crappie. At first I tried my best to remove as many crappie as possible, and began stocking it with stock tank bass. So far the bass seem to be doing great, catching a few here and there. The pond is full of small perch and crawfish, so I imagine they have plenty of food sources.

Here is the question though. The pond is murky, with probably only 6"-10" of visibility. About a month ago it started to get over ran with moss, I used some stuff and got it to die off without effecting the fish. So what can I do to achieve nice clear water and also I would like to add some nice looking vegetation around the bank and possibly the two small coves it has.

The pond is a little under 2 acres. Around 8-10' deep when full. The west end has a shallow running bank (1' deep for 6-8 ft out) then drops off. There is quite a bit of red clay in the area and sand. Location is East Texas.

Here are a few pics for reference

Welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, "nice clear water" and lots of nutrients in the water = lots of algae or submerged weeds all over the pond. Submerged plants and algae need sunlight to grow.

Do a search in the muddy water section for threads titled "Alum kicks clays butt" or something like that. That will tell you all you want to know how to clear up a muddy pond.

Whoa!!! That's along thread. Will have to read that when I have more time. Thanks for the tip. Has anyone heard of Phosphoric Acid at a 30% level being added in the liquid form to obtain similar results?
