Hello Everyone!

New Person introducing himself:

I am looking to put in a small 50x70' farm pond onto my new property. I posted about my concerns and seeking advice here:

aside from what is noted there, I am interested in

(1) getting this stocked properly since it is so small (bass and maybe koi and their food sources)


(2) keeping mosquitos away

(3) keeping the water clear

(4) maybe having it be a natural swimming hole too

So hello everyone and any advice coming this way would be grately appreciated. here is a snap of the proposed location where there is standing water just past the tree stumps

More questions?

1. Probably not bass, too small. Plenty of other options though! Plenty of help here.
2. Fish. Problem solved.
3. Should naturally with our soils. Just don't add koi, goldfish, or catfish. They like digging in sediments for food which makes the water turbid.
4. See #3. You will want a larger pond though, seems a 1/2 acre is a good size and make it more than 10' deep to account for summer evaporation dropping the level by more than 2'. You don't want to have to touch the bottom.

Build a dock before it fills! Important!
