Went out today on the pond, temperature was in the high 50’s. Caught a lot of bass in a short amount of time. The fish were very active. This was the largest, 23.5 inches. The battery in scale was dead so did not get a weight. We were glad to see one this size. This might of been the largest this year. John

Yowza to December in Kansas!
What do you think? 5lbs or so, or more?

Gotta be pushing 7# is my guess...maybe the Queen of the pond? Nicely done. Open water I hope will be a distant memory very soon - I need some ice!

What do you think? 5lbs or so, or more? At least 6 lbs. I would bet. In my taxidermy shop a bass has to be 23 inches to be at least 6 lbs. Some are even in the 7 lb. range.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

At least 6 lbs. I would bet. +1 Cold water bassin during late fall and early spring can be fantastic on small waters. Nice LMB!

The bass appears in good condition not skinny nor real plump. Very nice bass for a Kansas pond. There may be a few more growing years available to add some length and weight for that fish. Standard weight of a LMB 23.5" long is 7.6 lbs.

Thanks for the reply. Most of the bass looked real healthy. They have a nice gut but not huge. We catch all sizes, from couple inches to 10 lb. I am happy with my current balance of LMB and Crappies. But as you know the balance can change. John

This Crappie was caught same day in December. This LMB caught by Lori in July, didn't get a size on it.
