Pond Boss Forums POND CONSTRUCTION Renovating a Pond or Lake? Digging out small spring for fish how deep?

i wanted a bigger pond but i had several pond builders come look at my site and said it would be a waste of time do to the ledge rock so im stuck with a small spring pond thats already there. Its about 20x60 and 1 foot deep now due to all the muck over the years. It flows all year and has never went dry. I was wondering how deep it would have to be to make it feasable for a few fish to survive? I was just wanting something for young kids to play around and have some fun. And also does anybody have any ideas of pics of small springs or extremely small ponds that look neat and attractive?

Put liners in and make that pond as big as you want!! hehe. With the right ariation you can get a lot more fish in a small area. Areation or waterfalls make small pond really cool!! do a search on the site, I have seen some great picture, but cant remember where.

Shoot for at least 6 foot. I have seen fish winter under ice less than 4 ft deep, but they are very low numbers and dont look to healthy. We are going to loose a lot of fish to winter kill around here this year all the ponds are so dry, but it might make for some cool early ice fishing.

A small spring providing water to a small pool or pond could support trout. Two of the variables are flow from the spring and size of the pool/pond. I've seen trout survive in a pool 10ft in diameter that had small constant spring water flow. Do you have any idea what the flow rate of the spring is?
