I recently bought 31.28 acres with a 1.5 acre pond on it. The pond has no fish in it due to the drought 2 years ago. I have been using the well to fill it up until it rains. The pond will be 6-8 feet deep in the middle and gets to 2-3 feet on the edges with numerous stumps still located in the water.
I put 20 GC in last month to help with the grass and scum issues. This week I pick up 600BG, 150 RES and 75CC from the GA DNR http://www.georgiawildlife.com/node/900.
My goals are to have a fun pond where you can catch fish and swim. In 2 years I plan on reducing the GC population to 10 then reducing them down to 5 2 years after.

Welcome Kayak Killa. This is a great place to learn all sorts of stuff pond related. You will find out about things that you would never have considered before. Do lots of reading and ask questions when need be. That sure is a pretty setting for a pond.

Do you have any plans to add a predator to keep the BG in control? What type of BG will you add? Go to the fish hatchery with a solid plan of what you want so they don't sell you any extras!!!!

Welcome Kayak. Just to be clear, Bluegill (BG) and Redear (RES)(Shellcrackers) are two different fish, especially in regards to reproduction, and the management thereof.

What most here will probably be curious about, is the particular type, or subspecies of actual BG that you received..... Northern BG, Coppernose BG (CNBG), or even Hybrid Bluegill (HBG).

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

gA state fish are regular BG not coppernose. I suggest if your goal is good bass to add more BG than state provides as well as fathead minnows. Also reduce bass Possibly
