Good job FIH.
After watching the video I don't like the looks of setting that trap.
(plus with dogs and kids around)
Any thoughts from anyone on traps like shown in the link below?

Zep, if you can locate their run (channel dug into the pond bottom leading to their den) you can set the conibear in it, underwater. That will keep it away from the kids and the dog.

There are cage traps with doors on each end that are hinged at the top, and the doors are longer than the cage is tall. They only open as an animal pushes against the door from the outside. I've built some and used them for muskrats, again placing them in their runs. Multiple catches with the same trap in one night was the norm.

Nice vid esshup. IMO it is not as easy as that guy made it look (which they noted) at least not with 330s. I have cheater handles on my setting tool and it is still hard to close those springs.

Practice makes perfect.

One tip. Make sure the safety locks cannot accidentally slip back over the springs. I had one trip once, but no beaver 'cause the safety locks did their job.......

That is the last thing I do before I leave the trap. Only after it is completely set and camouflaged etc.

Got a new Advanced Trap this last week, and on the first night's set, it worked perfectly. Set it in the entrance to an active den, and it made one beaver very unhappy.

I also tried something new since we have so many beaver trails. We threw out granulated corn, and hopefully this will let us know exactly where the beavers are coming to shore. The Conibears will be set there.

Oh, Zep. I bought one after seeing your post. Very well made and nice people is the answer to your question.

And, I feel much better using this trap. I paint and flag my t posts when I use conibears, and I'm still scared I'll snag a deer coming to drink.

In my case, the cage is just better all the way around.

That's great FIH.
From the video it seemed like the guy really took pride in his product.
And it worked the very first night!
I'm sure I'll get one eventually.

I just got 3 beavers in 4 days. Conibear 330 is very difficult to set but very effective. Pics to follow. The vermin had flooded about 4 acres. May have another in the trap today.

John, you DO have the setting tool, right? Good going on reducing their numbers!

I have a setting tool but I need to lengthen the handles for more leverage. No beaver last night and the dam was still open.

I made my setting tool handles longer by putting conduit over them and crimping (flatting) the ends near the head. Works a lot better.

Guys......... I havnt killed the beavers yet..... I called my friend who traps and told me he wouldnt trap them since they are out of season. Thankfully they have left my trees alone since I caged them.... They are goners in the fall

BUT
I was flyfishing this evening on the pond, and guess who came for a visit.... He was swimming straight at me(I was on the bank) so I said"WTF" and casted right at him.. Got him right in the mouth and fought him for about 7 minutes before he staightened the hook. I yelled for my wife to come down and hand me a rake, so I could bludgeon him to death, but she wanted no part of it....
Best fight I have ever had on that flyrod though....he even jumped once!!!!!

Dang it, I would have loved to hear about how you were planning on landing it. Were you going to lip it like a LMB or ??? wink

I'll bet that's the last time you see that one for a while!

I know that's right! After several nights of Beaver hunting at dusk, they virtually disappeared. Now, I see them right at sun up, cruising carelessly around the lake.

The good thing is after 3 in traps, and 2 gone via lead, I'm only seeing 1 or 2 instead of 6 or 7.

They definitely learned my habits though. Maybe I should try a Stubby Steve's next, sounds like that might work.

I trapped a few when the fur prices were way down (fur was prime) and my sister said she wanted the pelts. She ended up getting them tanned and sewing them together to make a blanket for her bed.
