My new pond in central Missouri filled this last weekend, rising the final three feet after three inches of rain. Now that it's full, I think it's somewhere around 3/4 of an acre. Not as big as I'd hoped, but that just means I'll have to build another pond in a couple of years.
I've stocked 15 pounds of FH, eight pounds of GS, 140 RE and a couple of small albino CC. Yesterday, I walked down to the little pool that formed below the drain pipe -- water had flowed through it for the first time this week -- and netted two GS and 13 RE.
That's essentially 10 percent of my RE. Yikes.
For now, I've put my collecting net over the drain pipe mouth. I'll visit Home Depot later today and find a more permanent solution to the problem.
Last week, the day before the rains came, I saw my first small clouds of quarter-inch minnows along a clay bank opposite the dam. Nature is taking its course.

A screen is a good idea. Here are a few pictures of the BG that got sucked throught the spillway years ago at my dads old pond. We collected 15-20 net fulls and put them back in the pond.

Ya I have a cover with 1/4" slots. I may have to clean it off two or three times a year, but I never loose fish. It's green and I bought it at a field tile seller.
