I have a pond that is relatively square in shape and takes up roughly 1 acre. I am planning on building a large amphitheater style dock on one of the back corners, extending out into the water approximately 50+ feet. I also plan on building a large stage/deck in the middle of the pond with a walkway connecting the two. Here is my plan...... I plan on installing a steel I-beam over the water from bank to bank and welding 3 steel runners to header that run to the bank and anchoring them to the concrete footings on the bank with brackets. My question is..... What is the best way to install concrete pillars reinforced with rebar in 6-8 feet of water to support the header roughly 2-3 feet above the water? How many pillars would you suggest installing and what size? This dock will have a large group of people on it several times a month so it will need to hold a good amount of weight at those times.

For that big of a project, plus the expected number of people on it, I'd pay to consult with a structural engineer. Too much at stake if something failed.

Okay, I'm just going to say it, for something this major, you'll need to drain it.

I am a mechanical engineer and completely agree with esshup. The consult would be money very well spent. IMHO

IMHO Don't forget the personal injury, liability insurance. We aren't talking the standard $1 M here, make that several $Ms.
