Hello to All, I ran accross this site while searching for some information on a problem I have with a pond.
I have a pond on the farm where I grew up that has leaked ever since it was built, perhaps 45 year ago. The area is Floyd county in Southern Indiana. Dad always said there was a wet spring in the pond basin and the pond would leak down to that spot and then would hold there. The water for the pond is all run off from the fields around the pond. Over the years willows have grown up all around the banks.
I know dad tried to stop the leak years ago without any success. He had a backhoe and worked aound where he thought the water was leaking. The pond if full would cover less than 1 acre, but holds at about one half it's capacity.
I know this part of the county is not well suited for ponds, as I went to the ASC office years ago to discuss building a new pond in a different drainage and because of the soil type they did not recommend that I proceed.
I apprecaite any adice that can be offered. If there are things that I can do to attemp to seal the pond that would be great. Thanks JayBow

I'm not good at fixing leaks but it appears that you know the depth of the leak. Can you pump it down a little bit from there and see what the real problem is?
BTW, willows suck a LOT of water. I use Remedy to kill them. Mix 1:3 with diesel and spray the trunks from the ground up about 8 to 10 inches.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

JayBow, Welcome from a fellow Floyd Countyan. Youve come to the right place for help. This is a great site with lots of people willing to help. Maybe post some pictures and someone might be able to help. You can also find a lot of info in the archives section. Good Luck Rob
