Yeah i was aiming at the waterline and he was facing away from me. Pretty sure i hit him though. I shoot balistic tips. Not sure what they would do when they hit water but i feel confident i hit him. Hopefully he will float up. I will be watching the pond in the morning just incase he is still alive.

Was he a floater, or just pieces of fur left?

Those BT bullets fragment quite easily, so I think a 1/4" low shot could have just sent fragments of the bullet towards the otter, while the next day's shot cleared the water and the fragmentation happened under the skin.. Good job!

i have gotten rid of 2 here this year. lead and trap. trapping them are tough in open water. try placing the trap in the stream above or below your pond.
i shot one that i saw flip, flop, and roll for a few seconds before he disappeared. not sure if he made it or not. the other one i shot flipped and flopped and then disappeared, next thing i know he had swam underwater and crawled out on the bank several yards away and died.
i have no idea how much damage they did to my pond. i know they were here for 5 weeks. they had a home in the bank of my pond. i set the trap in front of the hole and got him.

Hello everyone, Newbee here with a question.. Otter question: They are cleaning out my 1 acre pond and I never see them but I do see all of my HUGE catfish they are eating and killing without eating.. I have built up my pond from catfish only as long as my finger to having 5 inch wide heads. Been raising them for 5 or 6 years, just able to really enjoy them now they are being eaten... by OTTERS... Does anyone have advice on what to do? My husband has caught (shot) about 3 so far but the others are not showing themselves... :-(

You could purchase a live trap. Also conibear traps might work.

Is there a den in your pond, or are they coming from somewhere else to get to your pond?
I've never known a live trap to work for an otter.
