Wow! I can't imagine how deep my muck is then if your pond is only 10 years old. Mine is 65 years old my much must be 5 feet deep!!!
The only difference between a rut and a Grave is the depth. So get up get out of that rut and get moving!! Time to work!!

Well I think some ponds are worse than others, not sure what causes it either.
We have 2 ponds that are now full of muck and used to produce some nice Crappie 15-20 years ago.
The bad thing is, that I think I read on here that is usually costs more to fix one of these than just build another (if you have a place for a new pond).
I hope we can check in a few years to see if it can be fixed and how much.
It needs to be dug out, and the dam fixed, I think I may even try to make it larger as well, if the watershed allows.

muck is usually just rotten vegetations and dirt and other junk got a lot of grass and trees around your pond looks like so ten years of cutting grass around it and leaves fallen in will start to add up.looks like you got dried up water grass to not sure hard to tell from the pic but that stuff adds up quick and leaves alot of dead material behind and just erosion from the sides of the pond and wind will put alot of dirt and other stuff in your pond. Then it all mixes together to make that special muck.you will proabaly have to change the edges of your pond so you do not have so much erosion.

A friend of mine had a draft horse that waded out into an old pond and got stuck in the muck. It struggled so much that it dislocated a hip and had to be put down(shot).
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

That's what I keep telling my neighbor whose cattle get over on my side occasionally. If they get stuck in that stuff, it's game over. Most of us have had a fun time, ourselves, getting a foot or boot down in the goop. I've read of hikers literally getting their feet stuck in Alaskan tidal sand and NOT BEING ABLE TO GET OUT.
