Last year I stocked 4 & 6 inch tiger trout, here's a couple I caught yesterday. They sure are good at stealing worms when there's no barb on the hook.
I keep a plastic tub on the dock and the fish go straight into that, remove the hook, measure and back into the pond.

This one was 12 inches.

This one was 15 inches and must have weighed 2 pounds.

Those fish are awesome AP! I am so glad you were able to get your trout to finally hold over a winter. With your new work it just ups the odds even more. Too bad Cecil isn't around to rib about how pretty those tigers are!

Thanks for the comments guy's, if your ever in the area your welcome to catch some.

I'm curious to see just how big they get, the brookies weren't biting, I only caught one 10 incher, the pond temps must be slowing them down, it's 68.7 degrees at 5ft. depth.

I think Cecil lurks on the forum once in a while, maybe he will make a comment on his favorite trout. grin

wow AP, GORGEOUS fish!! Congratulations on those.

there is a lake in northern Nevada, very difficult to get to, a friend of mine got in there twice this year so far. there are at least 3 species of trout in it (cutthroat, rainbow, and tiger)..here's what the tigers look like (thought you might appreciate these smile ......

i wish my pond would support trout.

Great fish, AP!

Thank-you gentlemen, Dave those are some beautiful tigers from Nevada, the interesting thing with tigers is the different patterns and colors from one fish to another.

Very beautiful fish, both of you!

Not sure what is up with Cecil. I got a pm from him after he quit, about a cold water workshop. I read it, but had to go. I was going to respond a couple hours later, but he removed himself from the pm before I got a chance, and it was only about two hours! Haven't heard from him since.

People change.

AP,

Really nice trout, I'm jealous! I used to stock them in a local stream, when I belonged to a F&G club in CT.

Had a good experience this AM, a couple of years ago I stocked some large HEX mayflies and this moring I spoted one on a window screen.

AP,
This spring I put in the usual rainbows and four 8-10" brookies, for a trial. I lost all the brookies and one rainbow last week, because the pond is way down and the water temps are raising. The waterfall pump aerates the water enough, but I can't keep the heat down, my shallow well dosen't keep up with the warming water.

Can the Tigers take higher temps than brookies? They are a great looking fish.

From what little info I can find on tigers they seem to be as tolerant to warmer water as browns. When I had tigers and rainbows 3 years ago they were more active in the summer than the rainbows.

It's a shame that you haven't been able to seal that leak in your pond.

Last winter really took at toll on the pond. It froze soild with about three feet of water. It must have opened the ledge hole more with the ice pressure. I laid a blue stone slab for the waterfall pump to rest on and I can now see it has been all broken up into peices by the ice.

I think the only way to fix my pond is to drill a deep well. I'm not willing to spend the money to have one drilled and pay the on going expense. I'll hope it may fix itself over the years.

I wish I could get some tigers locally. My supplier is only about 10 miles away, but only raises brooks and bows.

The Suny college in Cobleskill N.Y. has a fisheries Dept. and they raise and sell tigers, that would be the closest place to you, but that would be a 4 hour drive each way.
Maybe some one sells them in Mass. or Maine.

that 15 incher would be a state record here. The Game and Fish introduced them 2 years ago, and I I've caught a few at the 12-13 inch range, but they had not filled out yet.

If you can find a picture of the wyoming state record Tiger it is beautiful.!!

That's a nice fat tiger, with the pale colors I wonder if it's a female.
