Some good friends of mine are about to buy 200 acres of land and want to build a custom lake that will work as BOTH a duck hunting lake and a trophy bass lake. They've asked me to help them design and build the lake.

I'm an avid bass fisherman but not a duck hunter so I want to ensure we're doing what is correct to attract ducks for great hunting.

Any suggestions/advice appreciated.

Thanks.

Shallow areas that can be flooded are good for ducks. You should take into account the prevailing wind direction for proper blind placement. I would contact Ducks Unlimited and see if they can also provide any planning assistance or tips.

You will need the proverbial shallow area for the ducks and deeper places for the fish.

If it were me I would contact Bob Lusk for design through stocking. He's been there and done that.

sent you a PM.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
