Just got my lake done and fish stocked. I saw a big turtle in there today. He keeps coming up and I can't get a shot at him. Was wanting to build a turtle trap to catch it and anymore if there is any. Does anybody have any plans or another way to get him out.

I wouldn't worry about it. They do a good job as the pond clean up crew. They won't hurt the fish or the fishing.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Plus you'll get more in there if you remove that one. I have one or 2 snappers in my pond, but hardly ever see them. I never see more than those few.

Agree with Dave and Scott. Only reason to remove I've seen is if they're stealing your pellets from your fish.

I didn't known that. I always heard that they will eat your fish. Was wondering because I got a lot of smaller fish in there.

I think someone here said that if a fish was slow enough to be caught by a turtle, it deserved it. grin

I,like you thought that you didn't want them in your pond and at the time just happen to be working with a fella who wanted some turtles for there annual snapper fest (fastest person to grab the turtle place on mat and get a FULL fist around the turtle head wins)If I hadn't seen it on film I wouldn't have believed it.
So any way he brought me in a homemade trap and I caught 7 turtles in 3 days. No idea I had that many in my 1ac. pond.
And only the 3rd. summer after builing the pond.

If your still interested let me know. It was very simple and worked great.

I don't figure that boy is going to win any IQ contests.

If you do decide to get them out, we always use a old milk jug with some small metal braided cable and a Size 6 hook with a dead bluegill head tied off to the shore. Then u can just cut the line and move them to a river or something so u dont have to kill them because they arent bad really. We just take them out of our bait ponds.

I completely agree with Dave.

Also -- it is Bob Lusk who says that "if a fish is dumb enough to get eaten by a turtle, it deserves it."

If you do decide to take one out, they are pretty good eating. Just make sure and put them in a large tank of water for several days before killing and cleaning it.
