Voluntary water restrictions for some of DFW's eastern areas that use Lake Lavon for drinking water. Not because of drought, but because they don't want to reopen the pipeline to Lake Texoma and increase the risk of zebra mussels getting into Lavon. They may already be there.

Zebra mussels were recently discovered in one of our area lakes, Lake Zorinsky. They drained most of the lake over winter in hopes of freezing them out. No guarantee it works, but if it does, expect many other fisheries (if it's possible) to follow suit. Another area lake, Offutt Air Force Base Lake was infested as well. They poisoned that one and currently it looks as if it was successful.

I live in Rockwall, TX and Lake Ray Hubbard is down about 15' and we have been on drought restrictions for the past 3 years. So, if necessity is the mother of all inventions, I have been wondering what "good ol'boy" solutions to putting a serious dent in the Zebra mussels in Texoma we could come up with.

For example; what if we shocked the living crap out of them? Similar to the process for doing fish studies.

What natural insecticides can we use? Watching Billy the Exterminator I found out that oil from the Chrysanthemum will naturally kill wasp.

Can we teach a forage fish to eat them in our breeder ponds? It's my understanding the spawn are nearly microbial, would carp or tilapia eat them if taught?

Thoughts? Suggestions?
