I have a 1 1/2 acre pond. 5 pounds of fert per surface acre on bag. Is this a surface acre at 1 ft deep or just a surface acre? In other words how much fert do I need to apply to my 1 1/2 pond that averages 6 ft deep?

I assume your alkalinity is over 20 ppm. Most just go by surface acre not water vol. So if pond surface is 1 acre and bag says 5 lbs then apply 5 lbs. But I suggest you go slow with the application if this is your first year . All ponds react differently. Our ponds take way less than the suggested rates to bloom (20% of the rate). See this. http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=96127#Post96127

Whie Eric is correct. 90% of the time the reaction is slow in the spring when water is still cool. Also less risk in the cooler water of a fishkill. Use a disk and measure visibility if greater than 36" ok to go full does if closer to desired 24" go half rate. Check again in 10 days.

Yes but I don't want to be that 10%. We have one pond that the first time we fertilized in March 96 went from vis at 36 inches to 6 inches in a week and that was at 1/2 the suggested application rate. If we would have had a still day we probably would have had a major fish kill. I had to do a selective copper application to keep from having a disaster. First time learning can be costly if your assumption is wrong.

Applied 7.5 lbs 2 weeks ago and water is crystal clear. I can see the bottom in five foot of water. I'm about a 1 1/2 foot from being full in my new pond. Water was 64 degrees when I fertilized. Thanks for the help and information.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
