I wanted to take up one post to quickly introduce my self. I have read PB forum from time to time and thought it may have been only an American thing. I realized that some Canadians read the forum too so here I am. We own and opperate Ackenberry Trout Farms and Ackenberry Pond Supplies. We are a family run business and have 6 ponds totaling about 8 mill gallons and an indoor facility with about 77,000 gal. We feed about 200 lbs of food a day in our recirc system. We sell and design aeration systems and aerate over 100 acres of ponds each year. we pride ourselves on developing aeration strategies and products for our harsh climates. I look forward to reading and posting on PB forum Lorne Louden

As for the American vs. Canadian thing -- I was in my early 20s before I ever realized that Canada was a "foreign" country. I lived not too far south of the border. To this day, my family is on both sides of the border from the West Coast to the East Coast -- in both countries. Some of my cousins now have two passports. It wasn't that long ago when we could travel -- even fly in a private airplane -- between states and provinces without any ID. When Uncle Sam drafted me to visit warmer climates in the late 1960s, he first sent me to San Diego. When I arrived, I went to buy something. I gave them some money. At that time, Canadian currency and US currency were on par (a dollar was a dollar). They said, "that's foreign money." I argued with them. It wasn't foreign money. It was Canadian money. I lost. Until my first leave back to the north country, I couldn't spend half the money in my wallet. Enough for politics. Welcome to Pond Boss. I am involved with the West Virginia Aquaculture Association. We have a number of members doing similar things to what you are doing. I'm also their recently drafted webmaster. In the next couple of weeks I hope to have some things posted on our new website about our in-door trout/aquaponics programs. I'd be glad to put you in touch with WV people doing similar work to what you are doing. We'd all welcome a lot more about what you are doing. I can't speak for Pond Boss ownership/management, but I'd say that articles about what you are doing would be greatly welcomed. Thanks for posting, Ken

Thank you. In Alberta we have been conducting aquaponics research for about 9 years. Nick Savidov has been developing new systems and is a good contact to talk aquaponics. We had one farm that used aquaponics for trout, a college that uses aquaponics with Grass Carp, and one or two farms with aquaponics operations with tilapia. Most our Recirc farms are 98 or 99% recirc / day. We have less water, and thus run tight farms. Our farm uses about 1 - 2 gpm makeup water. .3 gpm is for evaporation.
