Does anyone have any ideas on tips, or home test to figure out how to get this water to settle after ice out? The pond not complete ret its only about 50
yrds long and 25 yrds wide.Deeps right now r 5ft.We dug this in aug 2010. The pond site is a low water table sight with a 5 arce swamp about 50 ydrs to the north and a 40arce swamp about 75yrds to the east this is very boggy. Will this help water levels in my pond? What steps do i take to get the exsitng pond to settle? I did the mason jar test. The one jar has not settled after 5 days and the other i added 2 tbs of vinegar and settled in 2 days.?

The iron will settle on it's own, but you may have to wait for the water to warm up as colder water is denser and more resistant to settling.

I assume you filled it with well water?

When I fill my production ponds in the spring with well water they are brown in color from the iron for about 3 weeks maximum. The water gradually phases to a dark green, then light green, and finally clear.

If you're impatient, gypsum or aluminum sulfate will probably speed things up.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Thanks . The pond filled on its own. Like i said low water table sight. Among digging, water was coming from the sides as well as the bottom. the water from the bottom would kinda make a gopher mound looking thing as it pushed the soil away. We dug 10ft down and stoped because it just keeped falling in on its self. Its now only 5ft. My plan is to dewater dig and dewater again mid summer?
