Hello group. I am building a stream to connect two ponds. I don't want to lose water to absorption by the soil, so I'm looking to line the stream. What product or maker would you recommend? The stream will be about 5 feet wide with a small pond 15 feet wide in the middle. The stream will connect my pond to the neighbor's overflow pond outlets. Thanks, Dennis

I'm not too familiar with liners, but be sure you are careful "connecting" the two ponds. This could possibly lead to property rights issues in the future...As in connected/shared waters may give either property owner use of the ENTIRE body of water. All too often, they occur when one owner sellstheir property and new owners make claims.

Rainman, thanks for the thoughts. In this particular case the ponds are already linked together with a stream. What the history is, my northern neighbor has a pond which the over flow goes onto my property via two streams going to my pond. They have two overflow pipes. What I am doing is taking the two overflow streams and combining them into one stream going to my new pond. The new pond is then attached to my original pond via a canal. So I am not changing any of the existing pond uses and ownership. I'm only installing the pond liner to keep as much of the water in the stream or pond without losing half to absorption into the ground. So I am not worried about who owns what at this time. Instead of me having two streams going into my ponds, I'm combining them into one and changing the route on my property for the replacement stream. No harm, no foul. My main question here is whether to use PVC or EPDM or some other material as the liner. The base ground is pretty smooth for placement of the liner. Then I'm looking to cover the liner in small river rock or gravel to keep the liner down and hidden from view. I want to use the right material for the job. One with a long life expectancy as well as high value. I don't know if that product exists.

I should have said long life and a high value in the sense of more product for the buck and not "as expensive". EPDM looks to be pretty expensive stuff. Not that PVC isn't. There are other products, but I don't see them mentioned in pond discussions on the forums.
