When I renovated my pond I had 1/3 ac of fish stuffed into 1/10 ac pond from May thru the middle of August with muddy water that had at the most 12" of visibility, but it probably averaged closer to 6". I fed the fish and aerated during that time. I lost 1 large BG the whole renovation. I doubt that I could have done it without aeration.

I'd say aeration can only help. Think about streams, rivers or lakes with rivers flowing through, all the fish are super healthy, fight harder (granted currents beef them up but even in the lakes they fight better), and live at deaths of over 20 ft, I can't say the same for most ponds.

Bass Shepherd I agree that it should help I was just wanting to hear from people that had actually seen the benefits from their own systems

FA and other macrophytes (pond weed, coontail, etc..) used to cover the entire pond, they no longer do. measured aeration has served to promote phytoplankton blooms decreasing light penetration and deep rooted plant growth.
i have no supplemental water in summer, so i only aerate at night when its cool, and i am convinced this keeps my fishies alive, and the water quality nice. however, too much aeration in my puddle and i can kill off a nice phytoplankton bloom, so its a balance..

Thanks Dave for the update.Im a believer in aeration and do it 24/7. I have a 1 acre pond with a lot of inflow durring a very rainy summer in Wisconsin

I have noticed schools of small fry & minnows have increased since aeration. Know when I walk the edge hundreds of small fry scatter! we never had that before. I only aerate at night it helps to keep water slightly cooler, before aeration the pond felt like warm bath water. the aeration also keeps the floating mat algae in check. We used bacteria this year & our shore went from black smelly muck to sandy bottom in less than a month.

I just put a areation system in about 5 weeks ago and all I can say is AWESOME!! My pond is cleaner already, my fish are jumping out of the water in 100 degree days I have caught more fish in the hot summer than I ever have and I am only running mine 6 hours a night!

Thanks James,
Just remember to start sloooooooooow if you are going to aerate. Even more so if your pond is older. Patience in startup is KEY to aeration!!

I have now had my aeration system running for about three weeks twenty four hours a day. The amount of filamentous algae has decreased significantly probably three fourths of what it was a month ago. Do you think this is due to the aeration system or to the cooler water temps? I was told it would take much longer before I began to see any visible results. One of the benefits from the system I havent seen discussed is how much the shad congregate around the diffusers. They make really good bait and are easy to catch with a cast net.

Cooler temps can be a big factor with FA species that prefers warmer water. However in my pond I see a resurgence in cooler water even in winter of a species that apparently likes colder water.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
