Well, I didn't get cold feet and said I do.

So I am now a married man.

We stopped in NYC for the first two night.

I saw more police officers in NYC than I have seen anywhere. The department was obviously trying to make people feel safe via high presence.

Ellis Island, maybe some on here had relatives who came through there when they first came to America.

Statue of Liberty

My dinner at the Grand Central Oyster Bar, 28 oysters and 4 clams on the half shell! Mmmmm

From NYC we drove north to Bar Harbor, ME. Did I mention Maine is one big state? Very pretty scenery along the ride there though.

The view from the back porch of our room at the edge of Frenchman Bay.

Some of the scenery from Acadia National Park which surrounds Bar Harbor. It includes Cadillac Mountain which at 1530' is the highest coastal peak in all of North America, having to go all the way to South America's Argentina to find one taller.

Sunset on Frenchman Bay

A couple shots of the hiking trail as we climbed to the summit of Cadillac Mountain.

A view from the summit of Cadillac Mountain.

A view from near the summit looking down on Bar Harbor near the water's edge and the Porcupine islands in Frenchman Bay.

The tides there were huge... The difference between high and low tide was easily 10 plus feet.

In this photo, at high tide the water would be over my head. At low tide, the rocks covered in seaweed are exposed.

The most common seaweed there was bladderwrack.

Sarah and I went out on a head boat one morning. The fishing wasn't great, but we did manage to catch a few fish.

A harbor pollock

A shorthorn sculpin

Rosa Rugosa or beach rose was growing all over near the coastal areas. It was introduced from Japan and has huge rose hip fruits.

One of my favorite Maine foods, steamer clams... Mmmmm

More Cherrystone clams on the half shell

More oysters on the half shell

Soft shelled crabs and sweet potato fries

I gotta admit, even with all the hiking we did, I gained 5 pounds! I ate some tasty food! If you've never been to Acadia National Park and the Bar Harbor, ME area I highly recommend it. It was Sarah and I's first visit and we plan on going back. The area has great food, scenery, lots of things to do and you can do it very cheap if you don't stay right on the water. OK, now I gotta get to being a good husband.

Congrats Travis. Love those scenery pics of Maine. I think the wife and I will be headed up that way next summer. Actually it's a sure thing after you mentioned the seafood!

We've been married 20 years now. Marriage is a beautiful thing if you treat each other with respect.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Congratulations!

My family went to Bar Harbor when I was 10-11 years old and we had a blast. I remember going onto this pier with my brother, and taking turns fishing. We literally caught a mackerel every 2nd or 3rd cast, incredible stuff. Very scenic too.

It was my honeymoon so as much as I really wanted to and Sarah probably would have allowed me, I left the fishing rods at home... However, at night on the pier, you could see thousands of 8"-14" Atlantic mackerel swimming by. It was near torture not being able to cast a spoon or jig a mackerel tree at them!

I am not good at math or calculating, but according to the timing of the full moon this month and all things considered, the stork should be dropping by next summer.

Enjoy some time being DINKs (dual income no kids).

Granted, I guess that depends on how old you are.

We are but youngins at 30 years old. We're hoping for a late spring birthday. That way maternity leave bleeds into summer as she is a school teacher and has them off. The way the economy is, we're holding off til we see where things go. But, God makes the final decision when kids come...

While I can understand the logic here, I'm not sure I can fully agree unless you don't sign on for any methods of prevention!
