bluegill or bluegill/greensunny cross? I think the latter. You can't see in the pic but the anal fin was blazing yellow, as was most of his belly. Plus his mouth is just a little big for a bg and has the blue stripes on his face.
The stringer was just to keep him from escaping until the pictures were done. He was released.

What Burger said.

Anytime you have some kind of border on the opercular tab you don't have a pure bluegill. Other things on this fish stand out big time as a hybrid as in shape of the opercular tab, the large size of the mouth and of course the bright pelvic fins.

Is the bluegill component coppernose? It looks like it.

Thanks for the replies. Not sure if there is a coppernose component. As I catch more bluegill I'll start looking closer for those characteristics.
By the way that fish put up a great fight. My grandson was thrilled to catch him.
