Hello to all, excited to have joined the PB Family...
My name is Galen, I will be a fourth generation family farm owner someday and have decided that there is no better time than now to get started on our dream home.
Part of my dream home is to own a pond that I am able to walk over to and pull some nice fish out of.
My wife of 11 years, Jen, also shares this dream and also loves to pull and eat those fish out of the water.
The family farm is located north of Lincoln Ne, but we currently live in Omaha. If you don't know where Lincoln Ne is, you are not into college football.
This pond existed for years and years until my dad cut the center out and drained it down. It sat empty for years and only returned the flooded issues with surrounding field and creeks. We contacted local officials and proceeded to do a cost share build of a new pond. Back in about 1994 we contracted an excavator to come in and build the damn to the print. Dad spent many hours on their equipment after hours helping and improving it beyond print. About this same time frame he purchased a 4 yard scoop and we put it behind our largest tractor and after hours and hours and days and days of late nights we took the existing 10 feet 1.21 acre pond to a 15 foot 1.71 acre pond.
For years it has sat uninhabited.
About 10 years ago I made the huge mistake of putting local crappie catch into the pond. Do not make this mistake. I have learned the hard way.
My goals for this pond are to be stocked with CC, LMB, BG, BC, FHM, and GC if necessary.
In June we have completed, (with the help of many forum articles) the task of stocking 500 2-4" BG and 2000 FHM.
We continue the task of pulling every BC out of the water we can. Since the stocking that has been a difficult task. We also placed perf tube habitat, pallet with screen habitat, cement block habitat.
We have built 20' of floating dock, placed a hanging AquaPro 25DX feeder on a 4x4x10' post. I also cut a boat ramp out and plan to place a base rock on its surface.
Our next step will be stocking CC and LMB in late August or Spring. The plan is stock 100 - 200 of each based on our quantity of BG and BC.
Thanks to all of you who make this site work. This is a great resource for people like me. Hopefully I can contribute something positive.
