Well first off, a big PB welcome, Jeremy! Glad you found the site. I haven't checked out your link but will be doing so. I know absolutely nothing about dam construction so my looking at the link won't do crap for you, but I'm sure I'll enjoy reading about your situation! I'm sure it's just a matter of time before an expert comes along with helpful ideas.

Again, welcome to the forum and thanks for posting. Please stay active and keep us posted on how your project comes along, with lots of pics included!

Great post, Jeremy - just had a chance to read through it. Man, that must have been some serious water volume to wipe out your dam like that. If the dam had been neglected I can see how it could have been damaged, but to be totally washed away like that is something. I'm not sure where he's located in TX, but Mike Otto is one of the co-owners of Pond Boss and is a dirt guy like few others. He is definitely your go-to guy in TX, even if it's for a referral in your area or a consultation. His schedule is pretty busy so he doesn't get a ton of time to check in here, but he seems to be on at least once a week. In the meantime, I'm sure others will jump in with helpful ideas. Good luck with the project!

this may help you a little bit i hope. i'm not real familiar with your dirt but it looks good to me. i have learned over the past 25 yrs that every pond wash out or problem will tell you why it happened if you look at your surroundings closely. when i saw your picture my first thought was its washed out right in the center of the original ditch or creek. due to the placement of your pipe i figured it was anyway. so i ask myself why here. i have probably rebuilt over a hundred ponds with this same problem always because they didnt allow for enough shrinkage in dam. your packer will eliminate a lot of this problem i would compact every lift and when i came up 5' i would restake my backface and frontface to make sure i got the full width of dam compacted and start every lift at the back running over core with that loader with every load working my way to the front. then i'd add 5% shrinkage for peace of mind so that if its gonna wash out again it wont be here. and them nrcs guys are usually good at what they do

Thank you for your reply Tim!

I am not following 100% - can you describe what you mean by shrinkage in this regard? Are you talking about the reduction due to compaction?

Thank you,
-Jeremy

yes i was. i wrote a whole paragragh last night for u its out there somewhere dont know where it went. what is your top of dam elevation 5' above pipe inlet? and what is your spillway elevation 2' above pipe? and does your dam elevation get lower as you move towards the wash this may prove or disapprove my theory on shrinkage.
