Hey Everyone! I was wondering if any of you guys have ever played a virtual fishing game on Wii? Apparently there are several out there and if anyone has any recomendations I would really appreciate it...

We have Sega Bass Fishing for the Wii. It's pretty fun to play with the kid. You get into tournaments, etc. As far as the visuals, it's pretty realistic, but the numbers aren't so much. 5 pounds is considered average and I've caught a 21 pounder.

I've heard the Rapala one sucks. I haven't heard much about the newest one, the kit that comes with the pole, but I saw a kid playing it at a fishing expo yesterday and it looked pretty cool.

Did a quick search for some reviews. Found this one on Hooked, which I believe was the one I referenced just above. Review doesn't sound too good.

Edit again, it's the Wii Strike that is the newest one with the rod controller kit. Bass Pro Shops The Strike, full name, and it sounds better than our Sega Bass Fishing game as you get to target a little more than just LMB. In Sega there are smallies mixed in with LMB, but not specifically differentiated. It says you get to target LMB, SMB, Striped Bass, and Walleye in The Strike, however the reviews for it aren't that great either.

For what it's worth, I think the Sega Bass Fishing game serves the purpose for us. We're not big gamers, just play occasionally, so it fits the bill. Maybe it's best, with whichever game you choose, to not expect too much, and maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised how fun it is.

Whichever you do decide to go with let us know how it is.

I think this game is very funny but I can't wait until the release of something more real, and surely take Wii play with a Wii remote.

i got both the rapala and sega bass games for christmas

rapala generally is a terrible game. The fish striking causes the screen to blur, and the graphics are as a geneal rule terrible. fishing for every species under the sun is fun, and the competitions can get addictive. Fishing for the biggest crappie is a good time.

Sega bass is a better game, with a wide variety of lures to use and a lot of different settings/competitions to join in. The lures that work in each setting/time of day/ weather conditions don't seem to have any basis in reality, though. In each case there is a best lure to use, and i think sega just chose them arbitrarily. for instance, nightime in the summer, IME, is prime top-water time, right? not so much in all the different sega settings. Watching the fish strike is pretty awesome, though, at least compared to the rapala version.

As novelties, both are pretty cool, beats wishing you were fishing on a rainy day or when babysitting your nephew. but all in all, i wouldn't expect too much out of either.

skinnybass arbtitrary approval ratings (not based on any real criteria):
rapala: 3/10
sega bass: 7/10

The fish would stay out of trouble if it could just keep its fool mouth shut.
Turns out there is a lot I should be learning from the fish.
