That depends on type of fish , time of year you fish , type of structure available and shape/contours of the pond. There are several reasons to add structure. See the text on the slides below.

A few slides from the PB III Structure presentation.

See this from the archives for ideas and explanation . http://www.pondboss.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=92463&fpart=1

I wouldn't put any structure deeper than 6-8 ft. I would put most of it in water that is 3-4 ft. The fish will spend most of the time at that depth and maybe a little shallower in the spring and early summer when you will be doing most of your fishing. I have some in 10 Ft water and I don't catch very many fish around them. My structure in the 2-3 ft water is probably my most productive spots. What kind of structure are you talking about?

I catch fish from structure in our ponds from top to bottom ( 0-20 feet). Tell us about your pond and goals (pic) and we can help with type , depth and location.

Its a new 4 acre pond with 3 to 1 slope and is 15ft deep. I live in Oklahoma City will be trying to raise large mouth bass???

I have an old concrete foundation of a house with alot of trees we cut down when we started the pond, I just dont want too much structure to be sticking out of the water? I ahve read all the book in referecne to this site??

How many structures do you plan to place in the pond other than ones near the banks ? One or 2 per acre should be enough. I suggest at least 2 that go from surface to bottom in the deep water ( 1 -15 feet). That way you will have an all year all depth option. Others should be placed in highways across the pond in ambush points. I would cover all depths so no matter the conditions something will work.

Do you have a Dissolved Oxygen (DO) profile for the four seasons? What depth is the thermo-cline at each season? If the thermocline is at 10 feet most of the year, place most of them in 10 feet or shallower water. If eight, place most in eight feet deep water or less. If you have a bottom aeration system or no thermocline at all, place in all depths. It also depends on the fish you have? Bream and bass will tend to use shallower water areas if structure is present than catfish that tend to use the deeper structure.

We have designed an attractor for our clients that is easy to make and cheap ($60 each) to build yourself. We make them six feet tall, but you can make them any height you want. http://southernsportsmanaquaticsandland....r.152105724.pdf

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
