We have a pond in NE Alabama and have been trying to do things right since we got going on it in mid summer. It was neglected for years before we purchased the property about a year ago. It has a fair amount of BG and some of them are rather big (8-10". They love the feedings. I am currently at 2 times per day for 2 secs with Amax 500 41%. My water temp is in the upper 50's and my question is do I stop feeding them at a certain temp or do I keep the auto feeder running? Less or more than i am running it? we don't live there and can only go there on weekends.

thanks all - I love PondBoss forum and the magazine is like Christmas when it comes. Rick

Typically the feedings are reduced or stopped once the water temps get in the mid 50's unless you are feeding cool water fish. Were the fish still actively feeding the last time you were there?

Water temperature below 55oF
Feed only one time per day, during the warmest part of the day. Set the automatic feeder for one second. If fish are not feeding, discontinue feeding until water the temperature increases above 55-60oF.

watch the fish they will tell you when to turn it down or off completely.

Isn't GG the shizzle? You're lucky to be so close to him Rick.

It means he is the "sh*t," in a positive way!

And Snoop gets some lattitude my way because he's a PITTSBURGH STEELERS fan! Actually sat about 5 rows away from him for the NFL season opener this year back when the weather was still nice!

Farmer Rick, I gotta tell you I like that saying - haven't heard that one before!

Dang, AP! And we had an unseasonably warm, sunny day today - 75 degrees! Throw another log on the fire!

Yet,,, when you fish through a foot of ice, the BG bite like they're starved. Fish, there's no figuring them out!

I deer hunted yesterday at 75 degrees.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Rules may be different for HSB.
Just because active feeding is not observed it does not mean that HSB are not feeding.

All of our HSB caught this week were caught on sinking PH or Stubby flies.
The few fish that were eating fish pellets on top were "sipping" feed rather than blasting.

Another point to remember that 55 degrees is not a hard and fast rule - striped bass will feed at 45 degrees on rising temps and stop on falling temps below 55 degrees.
I believe that HSB do the same.
