No worries about a thread hijacking here....just a whats going down- feel free to post anything you like. I am just finishing up perhaps the busiest stretch of my entire life and came home early on this rainy friday evening. Kids are sleeping and Brook is out in her new (to us) Honda Odyssey minivan running some errands. Headed to a costume party tonight and once I make it through that I will be getting all if my hunting gear together for the waterfowl opener 2009 saturday morning. We will be filming the hunt with 6 of my friends, and my grandpa. Checked on our field a couple times today as we were out and about and we have several hundred birds coming in and out all day long!!! Our farmer got half of the field harvested, and there really isnt another field harvested for mucho miles!!! I feel real bad for the local farmers. Been so wet and muddy we are probably only 10% harvested in all of central illinois and should be 80% by now!!!

Hope the rain stops so work can be done at the lakes tomorrow.

B'ski remember what the first half hour is for - your enjoyment and sanity !

Nate our farmers are in the same situation and crops are rotting in the field.

I'll be hosting a huge Halloween party at the Conderosa for fifty kids and another fifteen parents...and MJ. It's been rainy and the ground is wet, so I shouldn't have to worry about the campfire lighting the county on fire.

I realize it's too late for a costume idea, but

Just got home from a dinner cruise on the Odyssey. Yesterday was my fiancee's 30th birthday. The cruise goes up and down the Potomac River. Lots of good views and good food. The rain held off until right at the end!

You were on the river without a fishing pole!!! I am usually always the one on a tourist type event or in the middle of a city catching fish and drawing a crowd. One time in the Cayman Islands I waded out from a restaurant that fed the tarpon and used chunks of tuna and little shoreline crabs for bait and kept braking off monster tarpon until I finally hooked into a more manageable 70 lber with the fishing rod I picked up at a little local baitshop for the sole purpose of getting to one of them tarpons! There was such a big crowd forming on the local beach that by the time I landed the beast there were vendors setting up shop. After the nearly 45 minute battle and a couple hundred pictures from folks around the globe, the vendors paid me a couple hundred bucks to go back out and catch another one. By the time I got the second one landed, you could already purchase Tarpon Man T-shirts at the beach in several foreign languages...........

so I got a little carried away and a few of the details may be a bit fuzzy, but I will drum up a few pictures over the next few days.

After the long, hot drought this summer,we had so much rain this month,my fish are hanging out in the lawn chairs on my front porch.
Farmers here cant harvest either. What crops didnt burn up from the heat are drowning&rotting in the fields. It dont look good.

This is Kids deer hunting weekend in Texas. It is restricted to children only. I can't even have my rifle along. However, due to my Grandsons 10:30 football game today and Halloween tonight, we can't go until tomorrow morning. I will get up at 3:30 in the morn and pick him, his friend and friends dad up at 4:30 tomorrow morning. I'm pretty sure those kids would skip Trick or Treating tonight but their Moms are nostalgic about their probably last time to go. Dang, my little Pardner is now 11 years old, 5'2" and 125 lbs. He started deer hunting with me when he was 4. We sat in a blind; him with his BB gun and me with my 30-06. He got the first shot and if they didn't go down cleanly, I had to finish them off. Yeah, I know, old men spend more time looking in their rear view mirror than their windshield.

My old squaw is out of town on what I call a bitch-out. She and about a dozen friends have been getting together for over 20 years. They rent a large lake place and sit around having a glass of wine and talking about problems on jobs, men, divorces, menopause, etc. I encourage it because I think it is good for her.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Gotta secure everything around here for Halloween. One of the real down sides to living near the beach is that on Halloween it's not a question of "if" something will get vandalized, it's more a question of "what" will get vandalized. Last year the mail boxes got spray painted, that was so much fun. I'd love to sit on the front balcony with my pellet gun and give each vandal a "treat" for every "trick" that they played but apparently there are laws against that. I use to look forward to Halloween, now I dread it.

Other than that it'll be quiet around here. Ricki's did physical therapy three days this week, I've been working on a some CPA compliance stuff and we're both just waiting for her to be well enough and mobile enough to go up to the ranch.

We haven't had a single trick or treater in the 19 years we've lived here.

I don't know if it's the half-mile walk or the mine field that deters them the most.

I think it's the erie feeling of being scoped with a high powered rifle at 300 yds.

Kids tend to pick up on the feeling quickly.

The robins haven't made it here yet but the comorants are here in record time and in record numbers. I drove to the property today and had 50+ in one pond and 200+ in the other. Fish kill gets the biguns and comorants get the rest.

23 mallards and 2 geese this morning. The geese never really flew all day, so it looks like I have to go out again tomorrow morning, cause they are gonna be hungry!

With the full moon, they can feed at night...... Nice bag tho!

JHAP, what about a paintball gun?

FWIW, silencers ARE legal on pellet guns, no Class 3 needed!
