We have a large Pond...they refer to it as a lake behind our home. Neighbor's property however they are never there so we go out in the canoe etc. Problem is the surface is covered with a green "seed"like material. NASTY. The water itself is almost black. I think there is just so much old vegetation that is decomposing along with the surface seeds the whole thing just needs to be cleaned. Keep in mind we do not own this however we have been given permission to do anything we want to it. Any ideas would be welcomed on what we could do. Preferrably low cost.

Hello Elizabeth and welcome to Pond Boss, we're glad you found us.

In order for the experts to give you a good solution they'll need to identify what type of weed is growing. Can you scoop some up and take a photo of it?

Does any of it look like this?

Water Meal is the very fine green stuff

Duckweed is the stuff that looks like "seeds."

Good, that'll help the experts give you ideas as to how to solve the problem. If you can get close up photos of the various types of weeds that are in the pond and photos of the overall pond.

Welcome to PB Forum Elizabeth:
You will get so much help here you won't know what to do with it all. Keep in mind, there is a lot of debate always on all things water, you have to sift through the info and determine the right course for your particular situation.
