A guy who was leasing the land thought he would do me a favor and put a bunch of black Bullheads in my 2 acre pond. Any sugestions on how to eradicate? I want to keep my good population of fish also. Is there any good Catfish traps that someone could recomend?
thanks..

Well the drought was so bad here in Georgia that I was about to give up on pond management!!!I built my lake 6 years ago and it just filled up this last April!!! 3 year ago I built a 2 acre lake on a good flowing stream to devert the water over into this 9.5 acre lake. Effectivly doubling it's water shed! "ever heard of anyone doing this?"lol. Any, after finishing the lake we hit the drought so my adding 120 acres of water shed was off set by no rain.. Well the 2 pond lake filled up. I did not really care about it. the 9.5 acre lake was a 5 acre pond because it was 4 feet down.
To make a long story short I have started foolin around with this little 2 acre pond. All it has really is some fish stocked from the state (Bluegill and Redear). I did throw a few bass in from the big lake and about 3 channel cats from the big lake. Then the guy who leased it threw in his fix of black bullheads. Now I got to get rid of the bullheads

Flatheat cats, fyke nets, Memphis Net & Twine has catfish traps, and I'll bet there are other suppliers that have them as well. The flatheads might take care of some of the RES & BG as well tho.

I too love FH's, and once suggested the same for a similar situation - but was warned against it as it was suggested they will seriously impact his panfish population. Any feedback?

Flatheads are nasty predators on sunfish. They are also nasty predators in bullheads and well anything else they can fit in their mouths!
Depending on if you wanna drop the money, fyke nets would be a good option to remove large numbers of bullheads. They also make traps designed to catch catfish, but I think the fyke net is more effective. However, you will have to sort out the other species of fish you catch that you don't want to remove...
A healthy population of bass to aggressively feed on the young bullheads should keep them under control. It is imperative to keep them under control now. If they get too numerous they can cause water clarity issues and make the bass option less viable as the water will be too murky for the bass to effectively feed on the bullheads. CC in the larger size range also prey heavily on small bullheads IME as well.

CJ, I agree about the bass. I have seldom seen (or maybe never seen) a bullhead heavy pond in the presence of plentiful bass.
But then, I certainly haven't seen it all.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
