Well Ricki and I had the weekend from hell. We have a vacation rental and some tenants moved out on Saturday. They stole several items, dumb stuff, a telephone, place mats, coasters, flatware, towels, a vase filled with shells. And they left the place in a complete mess, the carpeting was filthy, the couches were all stained, they broke three screen doors. And we had new tenants arriving on Sunday. So on Saturday we were calling in a cleaning crewing and arranging for the carpets to be cleaned. Trips to Home Depot to buy screen doors and to other stores to replace the stolen items.
I can't remember if I've discussed it here before but Ricki has been having issues with her heart. She has been seeing a cardiologist to investigate some unusual heart activity.
While I was in the middle of repairing, and Ricki was directing the cleaning crew, she came to me and said she wasn't feeling well, chest pains, clammy skin, and she was pale. I could tell that something was seriously wrong. So I dropped everything and rushed her to the emergency room. They immediately admitted her and started running tests. Her resting heart beat was over 130 yet she had a low blood pressure (not a good combination) and she had an irregular heart beat. She ended up staying in the hospital until noon on Monday. She had a battery of tests to determine what is going on. The belief is that she is having issues with the electrical impulses that control the rhythm of her heart. We have a follow up with her normal cardiologist next week.
Live is never boring that is for sure.

Jeff, sounds like symtoms of Atrial Fibrillation, which can be sucessfully treated and conrolled. I've been hauled to the emergency room twice for the same symptoms.
They will run every test known to mankind but Ricki will be in good hands with her cardilogist. Give her our very best regards and stay in touch. The Glazeners

Wow JHAP; you made MY heart skip a beat. And "no, it wasn't about the stained couch". - You take real good care of JWHAP, particuarly since we have to count on her to slap you up the side of the head on a regular basis.

You take real good care of JWHAP, particularly since we have to count on her to slap you up the side of the head on a regular basis. According to several sources the 7 leading causes of stress are: 1. Finances (monitoring JHAP is not cheap, bail money, bribing local officials, repair and maintenance costs to both JHAP and anything JHAP comes into contact with, etc). 2. Work ( full time job keeping tabs on JHAP). 3. Family (married to JHAP, nuff said). 4. Personal concerns (will I be able to control JHAP?, it's quiet where's JHAP and what is he up to?) 5. Personal health and safety (is it save to live with JHAP?)6. Personal relationships ( did I mention she is married to JHAP?7. Death (we've had our share in our family over the past year). No wonder my wife has heart issues!

My best wishes and prayers are with you.
FWIW, I have several relatives who have lived very well with a pacemaker or an auto-defibrillator for years.
None of them had to put up with JHAP, however.

Been there, done that. Stress sure can bring it on -- I know from personal experience.
The good news is, assuming it is AFIB, it isn't really too serious. It just seems real serious when you are having an attack, thinking you are going to die. I've had it for about 15 years. Two pills a day keeps it in check most of the time. I still have one or two attacks a year.
For me, the biggest problem was getting it diagnosed. It would only occur every few weeks. By the time I'd get to the doctor's or the hospital, I'd be back to normal. The 24-hour Holter monitors never would catch it either.
Good luck. Give Ricki our regards.
Ken

Jeff,
I know all too well about heart conditions. My dad started having heart trouble when he was 39. My grandfather (his dad) is doing very well, and he has had a pacemaker for over 10 years.
You did the right thing by addressing the situation immediately. I'm confident that Ricki is in good hands and will be just fine.
I'll be praying for both of you.

Keep us apprised of the situation. Tell Ricki we are thinking about her and try to reduce her stress levels. Stress is a real killer.
If you did not get one - start collecting a renter's deposit. It will reduce the stress and the mess.

Sounds like next time you go to the property you will have to move the logs and let her drive...
But in all seriousness I will be praying for you both.

We will need to come up with a list of things that JHAP can do to modify his behavior so as to be less stressful to Ricki.
Let me take a crack at a few:
1) Move to boxers. 2) Make your own glass of warm milk before bed. 3) Your english muffins don't have to be so perfectly buttered that every nook & cranny has some butter in it. 4) Quit pretending you don't know how to operate the DVD player

Jeff,
I hope all is well as I'm sure it will be. She's in my prayers! Heart issues are scary.
Not the same thing of course but a friend in the taxidermy business just had a heart attack. He said the two asprins he took right away probably saved his life. What I can't figure out is he says his cholesteral is fine but one of his arteries was 90 percent blocked. Doesn't make sense to me.
Keep us posted!
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

JHAP:
Give Rikki my best wishes. Hopefully the cardiologist will get it straightened out. I'll add her to the prayers as well.

JHAP, we wish Ricki all the best, I'm sure she's in good hands, but it wouldn't hurt if you did the laundry for her,---No never mind we don't want her to get more stressed.

Jeff, tell her that we are pulling for her and that she is in our prayers.
Being a landlord would do that to anyone. And yeah, get a damage/cleaning deposit. I've learned but the deposit doesn't always cover the damage/filth.
