We had a big rain several months ago, so big that the creek the runs on the back side of my property ran over into the pond. Ever since then we have seen some large carp. At first I thought they were eating duckweed that is forming around the pond. I think they are doing something else. They will go up to the edge of the pond and eat something I am not sure what. Are there eggs there or something? We have a lot of catfish in the pond and some blue gill and thats about it. The pond is 1 1/2 acres or so.

It is hard to tell what they are eating. Carp often come into shallow areas to feed on bottom invertebrates found there. If you don't wish to have a continue carp presence, you may want to try to catch or shoot those fish out before they spawn next spring... If you don't have a bass presence, they will quickly over populate and make a mess.

P.S. The bad thing is there is no telling how many smaller ones got in there as well if you had that bad of a overflow????

I had some carp in a pond that I owned and they would come up to the shore area and grab a weed and shake their head and pull the weed out of the ground - just like the way we might pull a weed when we are trying to make sure that we get the root. You might not believe this, but I was there and I saw it, and that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!!!

Just do it...

Now, Randy.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I don't think I'd recommend shooting with a .22. If you've ever had the chance to shoot tracers around water, it is incredible how bullets ricochet off the water. Just like pool balls off the table bumper. Plus, a bullet slows extremely fast in water if it doesn't ricochet. It is only effective an inch or two below the surface.

Arrows work extremely well though.

Yeah I don't plan on using a .22, that is one of the first things they tell you in hunter education, no shooting in water, although I know several people that do. I am going to use arrows, but I don't have my bow rigged up for fishing, so using my cheap arrows and hopefully can retrieve them.

I'm betting that if you stick a fish the answer will be no. My nephew's friend thought the same thing, and after losing 1/2 dozen he bought a bow reel.

Even if you miss a fish, finding your arrow in deeper water or where the bottom is soft will be a nightmare... I took my old bow and set it up for bow fishing for less than $100. It was a great investment!
