Hi All I have a third of an acer pond that has developed spots of kelly green colored slime. Does anybody know what this is? And is it good or bad? There is not a whole lot of it im just curious. thanks Mike

It's probably FA (filamentous algae) If so it's only a problem if you don't want it in your pond or if you get ALOT of it. Can you post a pic?

Hi Rick i cant post pics but i went out and looked today and did notice its clumping together to make bigger spots.when i first saw it the spots were about the size of a quarter now 5 days later they are the size of a dinner plate.the color is what makes me wander its like saint patricks day green very intense And very slimy. thanks for your reply

Hey Rick i googled filamentous algae it does not look like that, it is not stringy at all looks like paint blobs floating in water, at first thats what i thought it was.

Sounds like it maybe duck weed... Often times duck weed will start out as small clumps and the clumps multiply into more and more individual plants...

Sounds like euglena A bluegreen algae. If duckweed it will have little tiny "roots" under the plants which are tiny. Euglena willnto be possibel to pickup it will fall aprat. It comes and goes with nutrients and heat.
