Hello. I've been lurking on the forms for a while now, and I am sure that after today my use is going increase a lot. Anyways, our excavator has arrived and the construction of our pond in Ohio has begun. It is going to be 10 feet deep in the deepest part and the size is going to be approx. 1/3 of an acre. I've posted some photos online which you can view at: http://gallery.me.com/rcooked#100032

Looks like a lot of fun! The kids are precious too. Good luck!

Take 2 Kids and add dirt. Then it's fun time.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Mik,
Hello. Well, I've got about 5 acres of land which will be "draining" into it. My excavator is literally re-working the entire lay of the land with all of his laser equipment, etc... I'm going to run the downspouts from the pole barn to it as well (which will help a little). There is no spring, creek, etc... so this is going to take some time to fill.
Basically today was spent breaking tiles and tomorrow I am going to help him re-run some tile around the pond so he didn't have to bring anyone else in. Hopefully, once that portion is complete he will start laying off more topsoil and then lay in and pack more of the walls.
Certainly going to be nice when completed (I hope). I'll try to keep picture posted throughout the journey.
One bonus - when we cut through the 6 inch clay today he took some extra time to tear out whole sections of the tile for me to use as fish habitat instead of just breaking them to bits! So, I have a nice start on some tile to use as well.
Well, that's it for day two!

We are nearing completion... The rip rap will be going in here shortly, and the topsoil re-spread over the construction zone. Once we get the downspouts from the pole barn run, this baby should be done. Then, I get to start adding all the little touches. Anyways, I thought some of you might like to see some photos: http://www.me.com/gallery/#100032http://www.me.com/gallery/#100040http://www.me.com/gallery/#100047http://www.me.com/gallery/#100055http://www.me.com/gallery/#100062http://www.me.com/gallery/#100072http://www.me.com/gallery/#100076http://www.me.com/gallery/#100092http://www.me.com/gallery/#100099http://www.me.com/gallery/#100107I'll post more as the finish line nears! Wish I had found this website before I started digging......Anyway, Rcooked, 14 years ago I had a job that required a lot of low level flying around Ohio and I remember noticing then the vast amount of ponds people with 2 or more acres had. Seemed to be their best answer to a swimming pool.
