I was reading about hogs in North Texas and found this article on invasive species and thought of you guys. My pond is still dry and too shallow i guess so maybe I'll fix that one day but now I have feral hogs so I have something to mess with. There was a tidbit about mesquito fish that I couldnt buy knowing how small the fry are and how they populate. Maybe there's another reason the nutria hurts them but I thought I'd ask you guys. Sounded "fishy" to me. Thanks. Hope everyone is well!!!

"Nutria, beaverlike rodents, were brought into the United States for the fur trade; but they have become one of the “worst of the worst” on the Union of Concerned Scientists list of unwanted species because of destructive burrowing that disrupts farming and contributes to flooding. In Texas, nutria have posed a danger to mosquito fish in Big Bend National Park."

here's the article:

Hi Keith,

If they're saying that nutria are threatening the common mosquito fish gambusia affinis, I don't think that's possible. It is possible that nutria drain small ponds and pools, and kill the fish. If water ever returns to the drained ponds, there will be no mosquito fish to control mosquitoes for a while.

Although we have lots of nutria in my parts, they haven't affected us much yet. However, the Chinese tallow tree and fire ants are horrendous pests. The giant salvia also sounds like something to cause genuine concern.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Til I get my water back(still dry) gonna eat the other white meat. I don't mind invasive species at all. I'm about to fill my freezer as soon as I think I have how to clean one down. Theres a quick way that you just take shoulders hams and backstrap that doesn't sound bad. Right now I'm just feeding them:) Here piggy piggy

The one in the fifth picture down looks like he's posing for the picture!
