I caught a small sunfish in a pond where dies not seem to be any sunfish. The more i look at it the more it looks like just a bluegill.

For some reason he looks really blurry on my screen.
The only thing I can make out that is of value is that I think he's got vertical banding, which I see on bluegill. Usually my redears look more speckled--kinda random in their markings.
Holding a redear sunfish is like running with scissors.

I would also guess some crossing going down.

I would also guess some crossing going down. Ditto here. The blue speckling is a dead giveaway for a green sunfish or a green sunfish/bluegill hybrid.
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

thanks all In the water the side fins look like the tips are white like a green sunfish. The fish just looks a little off to me. Right now the fish run and hide when i walk up to them so i will leave them alone for a while. If i catch another i will make sure i get a better pic. The fish is only about 3/4" and i had the macro on but still ended up blurry, ill take more pics next time. I took 3 and that was the best . Note: I saw 2 RES get out of a car in front of the house yesterday, now im scared, I think they put out a hit on me for saying "just a bluegill".lol!

I caught another sunfish, pics still not great though. I saw some kids fishing that said they do catch a few RES periodically. Any chance this could be a RES?

It is double tough, for me, to make a positive ID on baby sunfish.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Quoting "some kids fishing that said they do catch a few RES periodically". Those "RES" the kids are catching are very likely green sunfish.
