start eating feed? I stocked 12 yesterday. I went out this morning and threw some food in with no reaction. I will try again this afternoon.

Mike, what size HSB did you stock?
They are very timid when small with competition from CC or big BG.

Do you feed by hand or feeder?
They get on feed quickly if fed each day, same place - same time.

The Hybrids are 10-12 inchs.

I hand feed. The pond is only a 1/2 acre at the most

What other species do you have in your pond?
If aggressive CC and BG feeding, it will take time.

My most dificult HSB to train were in a 1/4 acre pond full of FHM(fathead minnows)and RES(red ear sunfish)fry - they preferred natural forage.

Consistancy is the key to training fish to feed.

The are lmb, BG and CC. I put the CC in last week. I haven't really seen anything react to the feed yet. I just tried again and I didn't see anything feeding. I don't think there is much food size prey. Everything is adult size.

Thanks for your input

I saw them today and I fed them a couple worms and they ate them but they wouldn't come to the surface for the pellets.

Mine feed toward the center of the pond. They eat what sinks before feeding on the surface. They seem to school when feeding...making 5 or 6 hits at the same time followed by a few minute break before resuming. Feeding right before dark gets the best reaction at my place.

I still haven't seen them feeding yet and I have been feeding them everyday. I have been feeding them a mix of floating and sinking pellets. Maybe they are eating the sinking and I can't see it. Should I just throw in the floating for a couple days? I have been feeding them the same time everyday

Still no luck getting the fish to the Hybrids or any of the fish to come up and eat the pellets. There really isn't much natural food in there either. Before I stocked it it was full of 10-12 inch bass and nothing else.

I can definately tell a difference when i feed an hour earlier in the day, they act like no one is home.... also get best results about 45 minutes before dark. Best to throw pellets in an area over deeper water and watch for the flashes below the surface as they hit it sinking.
Keep at it, they will come

Are you feeding floating or sinking pellets?

Pretty much everybody is feeding floating pellets. Most floating pellets eventually sink.

Yes, am feeding the PGFC which floats and then slowly sinks after a bit. No problems with it other then costs. ( $24 per 50# bag)

Still no luck. I am feeding them 46% protein floating pellets that the HSB hatchery sold me. I am also occasionaly throwing in some slow sinking pellets.

Maybe try a different type of feed. My fish took to Purina Gamefish Chow rather quickly.

Are your water temps still above the mid sixties?

I am pretty sure the water is in the mid sixties. I saw some swirls tonight right before dark. They weren't overly aggresive but I am hopeful it was them
