My name is Jim and i have a 1 acre spring fed pond. It is 16' deep in the center and is stocked with bass, trout gills etc.. I am thinking of deepening the sides back as the pond is 40+ years old. It has 3 springs all around the pond and i have one tapped to the house through a holding tank with a run out back to the pond. I will post some pics (soon as i know how) Just saying hi!!

Nice looking place. I really like to see evergreens mixed in with fall foliage. I have got to leave Texas for fall! Hey, I think I'll go visit the new granddaughter in Tenn. in few weeks.

Beautiful pictures, after seeing them I would not let you do anything.

One thing to consider when you rework a pond is how do you get to where you want to work, and what do you do with the material that is generated from the work.

Welcome to PB. I agree with Otto ,if it has steep sides I would not disturb the bottom/sides.

You guys may be right about disturbing the area around the pond. It would take m any years to get it to come back. The sides are getting kind of shallow but its deeo in the center at ~16 feet, at the end of the dock its just over 6 feet. It is crystal clear water ande it stays cold year round in mnay spots due to the springs and they never stop running.

14048 mmm dunkirk area very nice!

Jim, thats a terrific looking pond you have, and being in upstate NY makes it even better ( I might be biased ). It's too bad that when you say your from NY, most people think of NY city, It's another world up here.
Does any of your pond stay open in the winter due to springs, or do you aerate?

Yes there is a 4x~10 spot that stays open year round and i even have some plant growth there during the winter months. It is the same spring i had taped and brought into the house for our water use. I had a tank placed into the ground (500 gallon) then put in an overflow to allow water to overfill the tank and go into the pond when we are not using the water. I ran a water line 3ft below grade and then into the house and we have perfect spring water. I have it tested each year to be sure but it has always came back as good stuff. It flows at over 2.5 gallons a minute year round and it's nevber run dry.

Having a spring like that is priceless, I bet alot of people would kill for a setup like that. I have to worry about keeping my gravity flow waterpipes from freezing, and now I have an aerator to keep part of the pond open this winter so I don't have winterkill again. I guess nothing is perfect, but it looks like your pond is close.

Thanks there are 3 more springs scattered around the pond one is in front of the dock. They are not as strong as the one for the house/pond but if your in there swimming you will know when you pass one. I have a neighbor and he has a runoff type pond and it's been 4ft low for years and supports n othing but weeds.

You're a lucky man, 14.

I guess I'm just assuming you're a guy. Your name doesn't tell me much. ;\)

Aleast I don't have a shortage of water, except when the pipes freeze. My water comes from above a waterfall, and the pipes run 300 ft. to the pond. I guess alot of people do have water problems so we are pretty lucky.

Great photos people. I really like seeing other peoples ponds.

14, that picture you posted above looks like it could be the subject of a Norman Rockwell painting. Guy holding nice bass, gal holding fishing pole and a soda, dog is barking at fish, all the while someone is looking on from what appears to be a porch, pond and boat in the background. BBQ off to the side. The photo seems to tell a story. Good stuff.

Just to make you NY guys feel a bit better, I live 30 miles or so from Lake Erie and the first thing I think of when someone says NY to me is deer hunting Chautaqua County, so take comfort, not everyone thinks of a city when New York is uttered in a sentence. Very nice pictures and ponds, I see a deer inthe first photo.....is that your feeder??

Yes it is a feeder but now it is gone because NYS does not allow us to feed the deer any longer due to CWD issues. I still get many many deer sneaking in to get a drink and eat apples and clover. I have all apple trees around the the pond and pines on one side and the back bank is clover.
