I've been trying to find a source for Wipers in Virginia for a little while now. Does anyone know of any hatcheries? I have tried many times to contact Foxfield Farms, as they are listed as having them on the VDGIF site but have yet to hear back.

Hello MyGrass, I don't have an answer for you (I'm sure one of the forum members will) but I just though I'd drop in and welcome you to Pond Boss, we're glad you found us and have begun posting on the site.

Welcome to the fourm, MGIB.
How big of HSB would you need to survive existing predators in the pond?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I've been lurking for a little while. I'm thinking I'll have to put them in at a decent size, 10+ inches because of the largemouth in there. There are a few monster bass in there now, a couple 6 pounders have been landed in the last few days and a few bigger have been lost. That's the only predator I have to worry about in there though.

I'd like to find some too. I'm about 20 miles west of Winchester -- but in WV. I don't know of any private sources in VA or WV who are selling HSB (wipers). I've talked to various state fishing professionals and biologists in both states, and the best info anyone could provide was for me was to catch some at Mt. Storm and take them home and throw them in the pond. I don't know who the State Fisheries Extension biologist is at VA Tech. They have a pretty good group in Blacksburg, and maybe somebody there could provide some leads. Sunil, if you check this post -- does your fish guy in PA have HSB? Ken

I'm sad to say that I have not heard from my fish guy in about three months or so. I've made numerous attempts to contact him even through some creative channels with no luck. Frankly, I fear something bad has happened to him.

If you want to trek over to delmarva aquatics in DE or give them a call they will work with you and have a fair amount of stripers both pure and hybrid.
BTW where in VA are you? I am heading that way in the next couple years.

I finally did hear from my fish supplier. He's OK, but says that the supply of live fishies has been off so far this year, and he hasn't been doing much.
If you guys are still interested in HSB, let me know and I'll get you his number.

In Pa there is a place near Harrisburg that has 10-12 inch Hybrids. There phone number is 717-266-4577.
I haven't bought there yet. But they seem very nice and a reasonably priced. I am hoping to go some day next week to pick up some

MikeC,
First, welcome to Pond Boss. Glad to have you posting.
Thanks for the update on the hybrid stripped bass. I am probably going to put my winter trout in this weekend. I've kind of wanted to put in some HSB, but availability has been the issue. I need an excuse to go to Cabelas in Hamburg and BassPro Shop in Harrisburg. My fish hauling cooler hasn't been used since April. Maybe this is my excuse.
Sunil -- is this possibly your fish guy?

I am thinking Sunil's fish guy might be Keystone Aquaculture. I have been trying to get in touch with him. All his numbers are disconnected.
