I built a three acre pond about 5 years ago by damming up a small stream (one gallon/sec flow). The pond have been wonderful and we're very pleased with how it has performed. However, below the dam, I either have a leak or (and I think this is more likely) the weight/pressure of the pond water on the local water table has caused several springs to pop up. The problem is that mowing in this are is impossible, since my Scag mower or tractor/bush hog will mire in the soft/wet soil.

Suggestions on how to channel the water out of there?

Edit: Would planting a tree(s) in the area, such as a willow, be an effective way to channel the water up out of the soil?

That is true, these days there is a forum for almost everything.

And you're right this site is great, we have some of the nation's (if not international) top experts in many different fields that post to this forum on a regular basis.

Stay tuned and you'll get your answer.

Bob frame

Welcome.

If you want some willow trees in a wet spot behind the dam be patient and MOTHER NATURE will help you out.

Just kidding. How big of an ares does the seepage cover? Can you dig a ditch with a shovel to divert the water? A big machine could cause a bigger mess than you want.

Also how much water are you loosing?
