I've caught warmouth in the canals around my land and even a few in my lakes. If I start transporting the warmouth from the canals to my lakes will that effect my LMB population? I thought it might add more competition to the LMB.

Hey guys. I'm raising Warmouth in a pond I manage for my neighbor. They're very similar to Green Sunfish in their behavior I believe.

I think it's true that they compete with bass up to a point, and that point is when a bass eats them. Most of us agree that LMB prefer to prey on WM even more than bluegill because of their shape. In a LMB pond the WM will probably never get more than 6 or 7 inches long. They don't spawn as often or as heavy as BG either so BG will dominate them in numbers.

I put them as top predator in my neighbor's brim pond along with Shellcrackers (Redear Sunfish) and we hope to eventually get some 2 pounders. \:\)

ok thanks GW. I haven't caught many in my ponds but the few that I've caught have been between 1 to 2 pounds.

That's interesting Rossbow, where are these ponds? I mean what's the address and are they within sight of any houses?

Oh yeah, if you don't post a photo the fish don't exist. \:\)

PS. I'm kidding of course. \:\/

No they aren't in sight of any houses. The ponds are in labelle,tx. They were dug for dirt for the highway. I don't really know the address. My cousin stocked the pond with Florida strain LMB about 12 years ago. The red ears must be over populated because they never get over a few ounces. I'm hoping to raise the warmouth population, because right now it's very low.

I don't think you'll have much luck increasing the WM with LMB in the pond.

I assume you have Bluegill. Just out of curiosity how are they doing?

They are pretty over populated too. We've been focusing on the LMB. We are sinking structure for the bass and I hope that the structure will help the WM, RE, and BG populations. The LMB are doing pretty good though.
