Pond Boss Forums AERATION Should I aerate? I Just Killed a bunch of Fish

Stupid question, but could you use a simple garaden hose with a spray nozzel placed about 6-8 feet in the water on a stand about 3 feet tall, and turn your well water on about 20 minutes (?) per day. Would the water falling into the pond produce an acceptable aeration effect? Just asking, don't know, but it might work???

IMO, take that same hose with a nozzle and put it horizontal to the water then let it spray across the water in order to move the surface water. That would emulate waves from a wind which is pretty good aeration.

The hose would probably do more good shooting on a shallow angle across the surface of the water. That way, it gets a tiny bit of bubble aeration, and more importantly, circulates the water. The greater the circulation, the more water's surface is exposed, and the more oxygen is absorbed.

Here is an update on my pond since the fish kill. It took a long time for my water to get back to normal. Normal I mean for the water to turn back clear and get rid of the greenish brownish color. For some reason I had an explosion of tadpoles and frogs. Biggest tadpoles I have ever seen, 4 to 5 inches in length and the size of a half dollar. (what kind are these? ) I am talking 100’S of thousands. Same thing on the small tadpoles and frogs. My CNBG seem not to have been hit very hard. Although I did lose about 30 big large brood stock. The smaller fish seem to be doing good. I have transplanted 30 one pound channel cat and 50 LM bass ranging 6 inches to 12 inches in length. (I have tried to bass fish the pond several time since the kill and cant even get a bite,.) We finally got some much needed rain here in Duncan Ok. I received 4 inches of rain one night that filled the pond back up to normal. I think that helped most of all. Next on my agenda is to get with Russ Tally and purchase some food trained LM bass and play with that for a while.

I am still having some concerns on putting the aeration system in the pond.

Glad the pond is getting back to "normal". It sounds like you have a "big" hatch of bullfrog tadpoles. I must have 2K plus around my pond....most are in the process of shedding their tails. Sounds like your pond made a "nature" adjustment on the fish population. Good luck.

50 foot for $10 on sale... use a new 10 foot section each year...tickety-boo. Of course my pond isn't 25 feet deep or aerated much when the temps hit 100F+

Hopefully PondOwner's 1 acre makes a good recovery.
