My uncle is rehabbing a soon to be 9-10 acre pond. I have finally talked him into stocking bream and Florida strain bass, although I have to pay for the shipping My problem is my Dad, he wants to put crappie in the pond. I have tried to explain the problems that they cause is small ponds but he refuses to listen. My goal is trophy LMB, with a relatively easy to manage forage base of BG and GSH. I want to show my Dad why Crappie are not good for the pond, so any input would be great.

I wouldn't say they're bad...but they will compete with LMB. IF they predator base is heavy enought, they can get large. Keep every one you catch, though.
JMHO...let the arguments (I mean, discussions) begin...

You guys sound like you have differing goals for the pond. It's hard to manage a pond without a definite goal in mind (balanced fishery, trophy bass etc). Before you guys move forward make sure you are on the same page.
I will say that Crappie are hard to manage in a pond under 20 acres. I have heard of everything from overpopulation to poor recruitment with Crappie. They compete with LMB for forage. If you guys agree that your goal is Trophy LMB then I would not stock Crappie.

Then I strongly suggest you learn to appreciate crappie. All seriousness aside, a 10a pond is pretty easy to manage. If the crappie get out of hand, you and a couple of helpers can fish them nearly to extinction in 1 year.

Black crappie would be a better choice than white crappie if you feel compelled to go that route.

Isn't there a hybrid that is supposed to be less prolific?

Not sure that would be all that easy. Been fishing BIL's 1 acre pond pretty heavy for 4 years, spring and fall and we keep every one we catch. We can consistently catch 3-4 dozen REALLY nice ones each time we go.
Guess we haven't really been trying to extinctify them...just like to eat the things.
I haven't a clue on the differences between WC and BC. Love 'em both...
