Wow, I was refered to this site when on my fishing site. I will be sure to thank the guy that told me to check it out. The digging just started today and I am certin I will have many questions, even though many have been answered in the last 2 hours that I have been reading your posts.
I live in eastern Pa and decided to dig the pond to dry up an area of ground I wish to sell next year. I have a very small puddle now that I dug 7 years ago with my backhoe. It stays full most of the year and is full of frogs and goldfish.
The primary water sourse is runoff. I hope that is not a problem for my proposed fish stock. Untill today I haven't put alot of thought into vegitation or structure. That got more serious in the last 2 hours.
The finished hole will be 1 to 1 1/2 acre with a depth of about 10 feet. I am thinking about reserving about 500 sq' for shallow area.
I live about 1 mile from Middlecreek wildlife perserve so I am sure geese will be a problem to deal with.
Not much else to say except thanks for being here and thanks in advance for any advice I recieve.

Greetings, sdstohler, and welcome to the forum. Always good to have another mold builder on board. I do a lot of volunteer work with fungi myself. We look forward to posting with you on specific issues or just hanging around.

Sdstohler...
What are your plans to do with the pond? Any specific questions yet? As far as the geese go, just make some friends that enjoy goose hunting and invite them over for the season to thin your population. Make sure you have a waiver for them to sign in case somebody does something stupid. That keeps you from being liable. You could even charge them a bag of fish food or something so that you at least get something out of it.

The plan is to stock LMB & BG plant some nice veg. and enjoy it. Its a bit close to houses for much hunting but can be done if carful. I took some pics this morning of the excavation and will post soon. Only specific is where do I start? I have to say I am a bit overwhelmed with all the info.
as far as being a mold builder I build molds for concrete not fungi. I was trying to post a pic of my work but have to figure out how to do that. any help appreciated.

Sdstohler... Check the archives for info about posting pictures. That is how I found it when I started on here six months ago. As far as your stocking plan goes, people down here in Texas stock Fathead Minnows a few months after the pond is full along with Bluegill. After 6 months to a year, they stock the fingerling Largemouth Bass. I would assume it would be the same up North, but I am sure somebody will correct me if I am wrong. As far as being overwhelmed, keep asking questions and they will keep being answered.
